It is always a trend to make every Friday a freaky movie night. That is why, Dick Sy Ong Wellmed has recommendations for your weekend freaky movie night.

Here are my top 5 picks.

Dick Sy Ong Wellmed Recommendation #1.
Host (2020)

Host is apparently one of the scariest movies ever made. A study monitored participants’ heart rates while they watched 40 scary movies and found this British film made peoples’ heart rates increase the most.

Filmed during the pandemic, Host is about a group of friends who regularly get together on Zoom. Sounds pretty normal, right? It is, until they hire a spiritual medium and terrifying things start to happen.

Do you think it's possible for certain people to converse with the dead? Why? Why not?

Do you believe in fortune tellers and psychics? Why? Why not?

What is the most terrifying movie you've ever seen?

Dick Sy Ong Wellmed Recommendation #2.
It (2017)

It is the highest-grossing horror film in the world, according to numbers. The film is set in a tiny village in the United States, where children begin to vanish one by one. Who is the bad guy? An wicked clown that dwells in the sewers of the city.

What are your thoughts on clowns? Why do you believe there are so many people who are afraid of them?

What do you believe made a horror film about a clown so famous throughout the world?

Have you ever seen a clown up close and personal? If so, when do you think it will happen?

It is based on a novel by Stephen King, a well-known horror writer, therefore students who enjoy the film should read the book as well.

Dick Sy Ong Wellmed Recommendation #3.
The War of the Worlds  (2005)

G. Wells certainly had no idea when he penned The War of the Worlds in the 1890s that his extraterrestrial invasion scenario would be adapted into dozens of films, TV series, radio shows, and more! The 2005 film is one of the most horrifying of all the versions

Do you believe in extraterrestrials? Why? What's to stop you?

Do you believe aliens would attack Earth if they existed? Why? What's to stop you?

What subjects do you believe you'd be able to discuss with an extraterrestrial if you met one?

Check out the "First Brit in Space Says Aliens Are Real" and "Roswell, New Mexico: From UFOs to Alien Tourism" for additional alien-related stories

Dick Sy Ong Wellmed Recommendation #4.
The Sense of the Sixth (1999)

The Sixth Sense was a tremendous hit when it was first published, and it's about a boy who can see the ghosts of the dead hanging around in ugly, terrifying ways. He receives treatment from a child psychologist throughout the novel, who later finds something terrifying about himself.

Do you believe in ghosts? If so, have you or anyone you know ever seen a ghost?

Would you ever want the ghost of a friend or family member to visit you? Why? Why not?

Why do you think people find ghosts so frightening?

Dick Sy Ong Wellmed Recommendation #5.
Coraline (2009)

Coraline is the most kid-friendly option on this list, as it is an animated picture based on a novel of the same name. The story follows a young woman who accidentally enters a parallel reality that appears to be too good to be true and must return to her original existence before losing her soul.

Do you think there's a possibility of a parallel universe?

What were you most afraid of when you were a kid? So, how about now?

Do you enjoy animated films? If so, which ones are your favorites?

Children who enjoy this picture should see The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), directed by the same Henry Selick.
