Packing for a weekend trip should ideally be a simple affair, but we often tend to make it complicated by trying to pack in a lot. What needs to be remembered is that it is just a small trip- two to three days and so the requirement of clothes, shoes, and accessories is going to be limited. Another thing to note is that the weather conditions are unlikely to change over the two days so the requirement for clothes and accessories will remain the same. So, the rule should be to pack light but not miss the essentials like phone chargers, medicines and in some cases work laptop. You also need to be aware of the flight check-in rules and the items that should not be kept in your baggage,

Here are some tips to ensure that your baggage does not exceed the limits set by the airline on which you are travelling.

  • Pack Light and place different items strategically- Less baggage means convenient travel. If you don’t have a check -n bag and you have done web check-in you can simply proceed for the security check once you are at the airport. No need to stand in the long queues for giving baggage. Another thing to keep in mind is the weather of the place where you are travelling to. If it is cold, you may need a jacket or two. You can ensure that your bag is not bulky by wearing the heaviest jacket and boots during travel. This will create ample space in your suitcase or bag. Another option is to keep your socks and undergarments in random empty spaces after you have packed the heavier and bigger items.
  • Mix and Match- You can pack clothes that can be mixed and matched to create different looks. Add a couple of accessories like scarves or jackets to spice up your neutral-colored clothes. Do not forget to keep a swimsuit if you are planning to relax and swim in the hotel or resort pool.
  • Shoes- You may be tempted to pack an extra pair of shoes or sandals even for a short trip. But remember shoes are bulky and take up a lot of space. So, the best way to keep your baggage light is to limit the number of shoes that you pack to one. Choose a pair that can be worn all over the weekend. Just ensure that it is comfortable for walking while looking nice and apt for dinner and other outings. You can, however, keep a pair of flip-flops if you are planning to visit the beach or the pool during your stay.
  • Limit your Electronic Items- Since it’s a short trip and you may not find time to work or watch a movie, it is better to avoid packing both a laptop and a tablet.
  • Toiletries- Take only the essentials instead of packing all kinds of products in your pouch or pour them in small bottles to reduce the weight. Your hotel will anyway provide you with the essentials like soap and brush and shampoo.

You also need to ensure that your handbag has several pockets to keep your travel documents and other essentials like money, ID cards, credit cards, etc handy yet safe. You can save some time by doing an online flight check-in and avoiding standing in long queues at the airport.
